A federation cottage finds its garden.
The owners of this beautiful federation cottage had a problem. While the home was charming, its garden was the opposite—a blank canvas that looked more like a construction site than a place of beauty. They wanted a classic garden that would honor the home's history and provide a welcoming, functional space.

To create a garden that truly belonged, they needed a design that would complement the home's distinctive federation style. They envisioned a space with character and craftsmanship, a garden that would feel both timeless and new. It was a blank slate, and they needed a solution to bring it to life.

We designed a two-part solution to revitalise the entire property. In the front, we installed a curved brick path to lead guests to the door, softening the entrance and adding a classic touch. We filled the garden beds with a selection of plants suited to the home's style and finished with a large, statement pot plant.
In the backyard, we created a serene and usable space. We installed stepping stones and detailed pavers to create a sense of movement and visual interest. A raised garden bed with a built-in bench became the focal point, offering a place to sit and enjoy the new greenery. The careful choice of plants and materials completed the look, transforming a barren plot into a lush, inviting retreat.

The transformation was dramatic. The new garden no longer looks like an afterthought but a central part of the home's identity. The front garden now provides a graceful entry, while the backyard offers a private sanctuary for relaxation and enjoyment. What was once a bare, unused space is now a functional and beautiful garden that perfectly complements the cottage's architectural charm and style.
